Yeti Begins

Q1. How did you know each other?
I didn’t know any of the band before i joined. John had met them all through mutual friends and had them in mind when he formed the band.
Q2. What’s your first impression of the other members?
My first impression of the other members was that they didn’t really seem like a band. They were all very individual characters, not like a bunch of friends or anything. I could tell they hadn’t been together that long as they didn’t have that camaraderie that you get when you work with people for a long time. It was like joining a brand new band.
Q3. How did you start playing with them?
When the band decided to get a drummer, they put a ‘drummer wanted’ advert in a newspaper and i answered it, auditioned and got the job.
Q4. Let us know the memory of your first gig?
The first gig we played was at John’s friend’s 21st birthday party. I’d only played with them for a few hours so was very unfamiliar with the songs… I didn’t even know what they were called let alone how they went! But with the help of a few nods and winks i managed to get through the gig without anyone noticing. I also remember there was a free bar that night and drinking lots of guinness.

Q1. How did you know each other?
I met Mark as he used to live with Carl’s (from the Libertines) sister, Andy and I met through my old guitar teacher, and Graham replied to an advert that we placed in a newspaper.
Q2. What’s your first impression of the other members?
My first impression of mark was that he was very down-to-earth and cosy to be around, Andy was really intense and had so much energy and things to prove and I knew that I wanted Graham to be the drummer as soon as I heard him play.
Q3. How did you start playing with them?
It started with me and Brendan (the old bass player) playing together i the basement (the Yeti Cave) then we started playing with Mark, then we decided we wanted a more interesting guitar sound so we found Andy, and then finally we all auditioned to find a drummer and Graham turned up!
Q4. Let us know the memory of your first gig?
The first gig was at my friend’s brother’s birthday in Kilburn, I remember it was really exciting as we had only just started playing together and we didn’t really know what we were playing and the band hadn’t found it’s sound or image yet. We didn’t really care though. It sounded great and I really enjoyed it!

Q1. How did you know each other?
I had to come back to London from the US after my visa from college ran out. I met John a week after I came back, then Mark and Brendan soon after. If it weren’t for Yeti I’d probably be back in the states now.
Q2. What’s your first impression of the other members?
The others are fairly quiet, they live in their own worlds. We’re not exactly a band of show-offs, although Mark likes to flick his hair on stage and Graham loves to engage in 10 minute drum solo during soundcheck. People think John’s constantly stoned but he’s not. Brendan liked to dangle his cigarette just before the first song.
Q3. How did you start playing with them?
I first played with John in my Auntie’s house in King’s Cross. The first band meeting was at the Cave. We’re still there.
Q4. Let us know the memory of your first gig?
I’m not sure exactly what the first gig was, but the first proper band gig with drums was a rare venture to West London. A birthday gig for 100 quid I think.

Q1. How did you know each other?
I met John at a party and we got to talking about Doctor Who. I met Andy at John’s mum’s house. I met Graham at an audition for drummers.
Q2. What’s your first impression of the other members?
John- “erm, yeah, i dunno”
Andy- “so, ah, what’s happening with this sandwich”
Graham- “are we rehearsin’ topnight?”
Q3. How did you start playing with them?
I went to the cupboard and on inspection found a jar of vaseline, when i returned to the lounge the boys had already removed their slacks, the games had begun.
Q4. Let us know the memory of your first gig?
It was just me and John at the buffalo bar in Highbury, I forgot most of the chords, but when it was over i was so relieved and drunk that i successfully got the number of a hot girl. i never phoned.
